Submitting article to various diorectories is much better option. but make sure the artcile isn't identicle before submitting make soem changes in it so that it isn't considered as the spamming.

it depends on your purpose. If you write article for your search engine optimization purpose, then the first option is better but if you write articles because it is your passion, it is okay to submit it to only one.
