My site has only a forum and the forum software is MyBB 4.0
Should I add anything to help security and stop some hackers?
Included with MyBB 1.4 is the Akismet plugin. This helps to prevent spam. A small button under postbit appears, I believe for user to report posts - however I have never used this myself currently.

MyBB 1.4 is officially the best forum software available

MyBB is great software for those who can't use vBulletin.

I agree that at this point it's well worth it to upgrade to 1.4x of mybb. You can see how snazzy it looks here. It just went through a rigorous paid security audit too.
Keep your BB updated to the latest release. Rename your admin folder. Keep a strong password and change it once a month (not required but is very secure behavior). DO NOT SPAM your forum, I know of a few hackers that hack because people spam them with their forum...!

Exactly. I know of a few weather forums that were made big because of spam but now they have a spam reputation. I'd rather be small and not have a reputation for spam than be a big spammer, LOL.
Yeah, i found an excellent forum that fitted my needs, but there was spam everywhere, there were no moderators, and the Admin done nothing to stop them.
That's when you just move on to a more reputable forum. If there aren't good moderators around to help keep the place maintened then you shouldn't even join.
