well i just made a forum. It is hosted by forumotion. Yes, free. Now, the question is how can i add some security?
I have never used forumotion and apparently you don't have much control so I just advice good passwords to start.
One free hosters it is really hard to edit your settings. Even harder if you do not have FTP Access.
Yes without FTP a host is fairly worthless.
You should ask the hosting company what you can do. The problem is the free forum hosts almost never upgrade the forum software. That could result to a vulnerability.
Personally I suggest not using a free forum host and get some actual hosting, this could be free or paid - but I recommend getting FTP access so you can add plugins and make file changes.

Don't use ForUMotion. It's slow, unreliable, and they never update their forums. Recently, they did a update like a couple days ago but the update is worthless. Also, if you have lot's of members/posts on your forum & you wanna move your forum elsewhere, you cannot. They don't allow it. Never.

Also, about your question... All you can really do is make passwords harder. You can also disable sending new password emails to admins & mods.
I think some free forum hosts allow members to request database backups of their members/posts. This is fairly rare, but it does happen - check before you start.
Change hosts immediatly. Like 11PM said, you can't get a database backup, and move your forum. So before you even start it, I suggest getting a free host, and doing it yourself.

It'll be alot better in the long run.
I can always set-up a forum for you, just PM me. Never start a website/forum that you will be interested in on a free host like forumotion. Why? Because if you do very good getting members, etc.. and you want to move, your out of luck and you have to start over(Threads, posts,\ wise).
