A lot of people may complain about them, but I've been with godaddy for almost 2 years and have mostly been happy with them. Their servers don't go down that often, so you can be pretty confident that your site will be up most of the time. You get a heck of a lot of space for very little money. So if you're looking for a good shared host, you might want to give their economy package a try. I wouldn't go to them for their free hosting though, which is pretty pitiful.
Godaddy is a pretty bad host from everything I read. What concerns me is that it's not their primary business. Everyone can do ONE thing well but if they try to expand on that it often leads to disaster for clients.
I just don't like to move around and don't really believe all the hype I hear about other hosts. I just like paying about $34 a year for all the stuff I get with them...and I'm hardly ever inconvenienced by them. What is their primary business? I thought it was domains/hosting.
Well, I had trouble even registering a domain at GoDaddy, it kept saying there were errors with PayPal or something. For hosting though, I have had a superb hosting experience at http://hostmonster.com/, and I even am managing 2 hosting companies, even though I don't own the servers:
http://ashserv.com and a more powerful sever, which provides hosting, but doesn't have a site fully up yet - http://favw.com

Hosting and Domain registration are two seperate fields. It's like saying web design is the same as SEO. It's like saying a car mechanic is the same as a car salesman. Related to the internet but not the same service. Often these two services are mixed in order to create a value add to the consumer. If I was going to want them mixed I would use 1and1 instead of Godaddy. I however prefer to keep them seperate. Most registrars make bad hosts...and most hosts make for bad registrars.

Well, variety is good for everyone. I have tried a bunch of hosts and have been unhappy with every one of them, so when I find one that is good to me, I stick with it. I found that with godaddy, and I don't even have that many domains registered with them. My main site isn't registered with them, since I do like keeping them separate. I have most of them registered with Omnis.com, which was a horrible host. They were way too expensive for the little they offered, so I left them and went with godaddy. Haven't regretted it yet.
I use GoDaddy for my domain name, but have heard bad things about their hosting, I believe they don't allow folks to use SMF, not sure why!

1 and 1 is something I've used in the past, a few years ago they offered 30mbs of free webspace to anyone who signed up for it no strings attached, it was good for 3 years. I was one of the lucky ones to get an account for that, but it has run out and I never took the opportunity to sign up as a "paid" customer.
I have Bravenet
at first i had probs, but alot has been due to my experience, I dont know how well they are on having alot of members clicking on my links etc, , we'll find out soon enough!
i dont like to be bogged down , due to a slow server, or down time, so far so good! too bad they dont pro rate down time for goodies or something! hey there ya go , a great marketing tool , blueparkia ! i been with bravenet for , since last feb !

GoDaddy hosting has quite a few restriction, but so do many other discount hosting services. ‘You get what you pay for’ doesn’t always apply, but it does apply in this case.

That's not true. I actually just found out that this is one of the forum packages that godaddy offers its members. They will even install it for you. I played around with it but wasn't impressed with it though.
