I recently read that you shouldn't put ads on a web page until you have a certain amount of traffic. To what extent is this true? Surely you get the most if you display ads from the very beginning of the sites release?
If you have ads on a brand new site (especially a forum) with lots of ads it will put people off. Its better to get a bit of regular traffic before you start monetizing.

Thats not to say you can't have the odd unobtrusive ad though.
Depends on the site. If its a proxy or arcade i would try to monetize from the beginning, but with a content based site i might just put one small ad unit till i get more traffic. Its all up to you though Smile
I think when you start getting a regular stream of vistors, you should start monetizing. if you don't thats just money thats been wasted. Basically, if you are getting 50-110 daily unqiue visitors you should start putting ads, but not really before that Smile
Near the bottom, or sides. Nothing to make the visitor want to leave your site immediately, I really dislike this. If this was a forum, I'd say after the first post and/or at the bottom.
