addition: shoutbox?

I don't like shoutboxes on my forums. They defeat the purpose of posts.

I see this sort of topic in many forums that I go on.

Thing is, like one of my admins said, It's another thing to spam, take away people from posting, etc etc, Example, Support Forum in your Forums, Guests will just ask on Shoutbox, get there answer, and be away.

Chats,Shout box, IRC they all seem to take away from the forum. Maybe once you get a larger user base and a limit of who can be in the shoutbox then it could work,

Seconded. I had one on my site for a short time but people were using that more than actually posting. Also if they automatically refresh it messes up the page you're on, and if they don't automatically refresh, you having to keep doing it is a real pain. IMO a place with no post count is a better option.

Also, shoutboxes are often the most vulnerable part of a forum to get exploited....
