I need a new forum... else I can fix the old one!!
Hi Friends... this is my first post here, and you all seem like a nice friendly bunch, so will I explain why I came here and what the problem is!!

I use a phbbb forum on my website... http://www.dockersunion.com/phpbb/ typically I will formulate a post then post the link onto Reddit.com, that way I reach a wider audience and increase traffic on my site.

However the hit counter does not record the visits... a couple days ago I made a monster post... http://www.dockersunion.com/phpbb/viewto...f=38&t=843 and got hundreds and hundreds of hits, so much so that I exceeded the bandwidth allocation my web host provides, and went off of cyberspace until I upgraded my account!!

Despite all the traffic however, the counter on the story line still says that there were only sixty eight hits, all of which were from web robots that came online, or ones I made myself, or were from various ppl to whom I explained the problem over the telephone, in the forlorn hope that they could fix things.

The best my web hosting ppl could come up with, was that the counters on that particular forum template were unreliable.

I paid one "expert," $420.00 only to see him head over the horizon, and then become abusive when I rang him back, and told him it still was not working.

So to avoid further effusion of money, it seems that I will have to install another forum and cut my losses, however I am not sure whether my hosting company will allow it, so I might be compelled to go to another web host.

I would appreciate advice, this forum style seems pretty good and it appears to keep accurate records, so it might be a good one to install. Cheers MT

Your saying phpbb keep acurete tracking , but there is one bug since the begining of phpbb that they are not planning to fix.
You know that thing users active in last 15min , well those are not shown correctly or 5min i am not sure.
Anyway i used phpbb then when i saw i cant expect much from them i moved to SMF , then i also noticed they cant offer much too, and moved to MyBB witch with i am finaly very happy , and i hope will be.
So my suggestion move to MyBB

I totally agree... I was looking for a forum with easy configuration, awesome layout, and a good community. MyBB blew my mind!

I would say PHPbb3 if your looking to start new. The new Oracle is amazing.

Thanks for the input guys and girls... while I am sure the Oracle has some good features, I am not so sure that I wish to go back to phpBB.

I put the counter problem on their support forum, and got no genuine replies in the three weeks or so it was there, similarly the log on strife never elicited a single response!!

When they do reply to a request for support, it is in computerese language which goes right over my head!!

The other option is vBulletin which is a good forum, however it costs a minimum of $100.00 US per year, and a further $60.00 US a month for telephone assistance!!

MyBB is starting to look like the most attractive option, is it free and easy to install, and is there any way of transferring posts from my old redundant forum, without doing it all by hand??

That's the best thing about MyBB...it can convert from most of the popular forum softwares. The installation is easy and so is the configuration. I went through SMF and phpbb and found the MyBB knocks them both out.

I also do very reasonably priced custom work and support for mybb. If you need it just let me know. My actual Mybb site is http://www.mybbcentral.com

Thanks and good luck.

As someone who asks for Labroccas help all the time. I can tell you he pulls me out of the biggest holes. Really he does. And generally speaking the whole MyBB community helps each other. Its amazing to be honest its free.
If i was to change software it would be to VB. But the price is questionable.
I really think you should give MyBB a go.
